Charlie's First Birthday, Pinkeye, and Mom and Dad's Visit!

Part 1: Charlie in the sink with his birthday cake.
Part 2: That boy loves his cake!
Three kids in the bath together, before the epidemic.
I taught preschool on Monday: H is for Hippo Hand puppets.
Grace taught FHE: Thanksgiving hand turkeys!
Tuesday was Charlie's actual birthday, so we let him have one gift Mom/Dad Gabe sent: wooden animal stacking blocks. ALL the kids have had a lot of fun with them!
Oops, excuse my burp. How embarrassing!
 I love those eyes!
Wednesday, we celebrated Charlie's birthday. Alice put on a birthday hat as soon as she woke up. Too bad she woke up with crusty eyes and nose: pinkeye:(
Paul set out toys for Charlie to enjoy when he woke up.
 He was happy!
Even his tummy turtle mirror had a happy birthday message on it!
 Yep.
I got him dressed up all dapper for his birthday party.
Alice was too sick for preschool, so she helped me with all my housework and baking.
Sorry, I just think he is so cute when he's in his high chair.
Mom and Dad arrived around 5 pm for the birthday party. Does he look like his grandpa?
Roast, carrots, potatoes, corn, rolls, jello jigglers: all stuff Charlie loves (minus the roast - not enough teeth yet).
Then we opened presents. Charlie was overwhelmed by how many he had! He opened Grandma Flake's first.
He cuddled up with the teddy bear right away!
We got him a police car.
As soon as he opened this sweater, he started trying to put it on. When he saw he was amusing the crowd, he kept doing it over and over. So funny! (P.S. This is a sweater from his baby shower!)
We love that Grandma Terisa works at BYU!
The girls wanted to help open after a while.
He got a GIANT package of clothes from Grandma Terisa - such cute stuff!
 Then came the traditional strip-the-one-year-old-down-to-their-diaper-and-put-them-in-the-sink-with-an-entire-cake!
He knew just what to do!
 He was in heaven!
He mostly ate frosting, since the cake was yellow. Smart kid!
 What a mess!
 Satisfied.
 Chocolate beard.
Paul hosed him down and put him in his new Superman pj's and gave him his new Superman toothbrush (both from us).
 Grandma and Alice.
 Poor sick kid.
We had family scripture study in 3 different languages: English, Spanish, and Tagalog.
Once the kids were in bed, the adults brought out all the junk food and played games until late.
Dad had no shame eating the parts of the cake Charlie left! (I did make cupcakes for the rest of us to eat.)
He was in a funny mood all evening, and kept turning on this new musical glowing seahorse at random times to try and freak us out. Admittedly, it is pretty creepy when you don't know where the sound is coming from, but Charlie likes it.
Grace loves her ear warmer:) (From Mom Gabe, along with the seahorse.)
Thursday was our DC day. So Charlie wore his Future President onesie under his clothes. It used to be Grace's. She took school off that day.
Cute new outfit from Mom. Poster child for dental hygiene.
You need a model for your new dental practice, Uncle Matt?
Mom read with Grace in Spanish.
 Grandpa read with Alice.
We went to the DC temple visitor's center.
 Cute couple!
Then to downtown DC to see Paul's work. This is the ceiling when you walk into his building!
He has a nice big office, where we all ate the lunch we brought.
 In front of his work.
 The fam.
The Albert Einstein statue in front of his building.
 Go, Paul!
 1...2...3...weee!!
Megalodon at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum.
Tuckered out resting in front of the horse skeletons.
 Scary dinosaurs!
 Me and my favorite animal.
Grace is really into bats right now.
This is how we know Alice is sick - she actually slept on the way home!
Watching "What Does the Fox Say?" on youtube.
Grace woke up sick on Friday, so she skipped school again. Mom and Dad left that morning, but will be back soon!
Wrestling with Daddy in new clothes from Grandma Terisa.
Cuddling with sick Alice.
I was able to get the girls in to see a doctor on Friday. It was not a good experience (one problem, as seen in the picture: Grace got a hearing screening because the nurse thought we were there for a physical!), but we did get the medicine we needed.
Mom speaks Espanol!
