Dad Gabe and Kit read the paper.
Then we frosted the cookies.
They were great!
Grandma Terisa did face paint on the girls again.
Festive!
Cute baby.
Then Grace painted peoples' hands.
In the evening, we had a Christmas song singalong around the piano. It was fun!
Grace showing off our hard work.
Computer time with Grandpa.
Monday was Christmas Eve. We planned to go up Hobble Creek canyon to see Elaine, but it was too snowy, so the girls opened a gift from Mom/Dad Gabe: a puppet theater! They made puppets out of wooden spoons.
The kids enjoyed the fireplace.
And watching the snow fall.
And Charlie loves the tree!
Winter wonderland. Paul and I went shopping and got some great BBQ for lunch.
We watched "It's a Wonderful Life" in the afternoon, then Paul and Dad Gabe put together the air swimmer helium shark.
It had a hard time staying afloat.
Then we went to Grandma Lu's in Elk Ridge. There was so much snow there that we bundled up and went out to play in it.
Alice could hardly walk in the snow up to her thighs!
Grandma Lu enjoyed her new great grandson.
Grace and I made snow angels.
There was so much snow!
Then we went next door to Aunt Dayna's for Christmas Eve dinner. Delicious turkey! Here's me and Charlie with Paul's cousin Lauren and her 1-yr-old Jackson.
Then the greater Gabrielsen family went back over to Grandma Lu's for a picture. Not bad, considering we had just been playing in the snow.
Then back to Dayna's for a concert and gift exchange. Paul and I sang "Baby, It's Cold Outside", Grace did "Are My Ears on Straight?", and Paul and I were in a group number singing a medley of carols. Then we opened gifts. The girls love their toy cameras!
And the shark made an appearance. On the way home that night, Paul gave me my first gift: a recording of Dad reading the Christmas story from the Bible and him reading Twas the Night Before Christmas. It was so sweet, because Paul wanted to make sure I didn't feel sad that I missed the traditional family Christmas Eve events in HSB. Then we put the girls to bed, after setting out the cookies, egg nog, and note for Santa. Grace wrote: Dear Santa, I love Christmas. Merry Christmas, Santa. Charlie started having loud breathing that day, so Paul, Kit, and Dad Gabe gave him a blessing.
Tuesday was Christmas. Alice woke us up at 6:45. The girls loved their stocking stuffers from Santa.
He also left them each an Aurora doll and a banana slug.
Wow, what a hairstyle!
Thank you, Santa!
Paul may have gotten a bandana in his stocking.
Charlie wore his new Santa pajamas and his Christmas bib.
Lynne and Kit made us a big breakfast, then we went into the other room to open gifts. The girls loved Grandpa Gabe's gift.
Charlie slept the entire day. He was a pretty sick kid. Note the BYU blanket I made him for his Christmas Eve gift.
Alice's picnic set was a huge hit.
I liked my Jane Austen book.
Kit had fun with his new binoculars, and we got some too!
Grace opened this princess outfit from Grandma Terisa and said, "Holy crap!" She tried it on immediately.
That afternoon, we had a lot of new stuff to organize.
Uncle Kit built Grace a fort with her new fort set from Mom/Dad Gabe.
The foam letters that Paul and I got the kids were also a hit.
A tower.
Go cougars!
Can you see Grace in there?
We worked on laundry and packing, and Alice had a picnic with Grandpa. That evening, a bunch of extended family came over for games.
On Wednesday, we went to visit Grandma Grace in Ogden en route to Idaho. She and Charlie hit it off.
All the kids liked her, but they were terrified of her 2 little dogs. Grace cut herself when she jumped in a rosebush to avoid them! We visited, Paul shoveled snow, then Uncle Skip and Aunt Karleen came. Uncle Skip is a pediatrician, so we asked him to bring his stethoscope and listen to Charlie. He immediately diagnosed pneumonia, and drove us over to his clinic.
I helped give Charlie a breathing treatment.
Poor thing. He also got a chest x-ray that was pretty rough. Uncle Skip decided Charlie needed admitted to the hospital, so he took us there and got us immediately into a room.
He was having lots of trouble breathing.
They hooked him up to monitors, oxygen, and an IV.
Pitiful little guy. They soon diagnosed him with RSV. I stayed with him that night, and had trouble getting him to eat much.
Meanwhile, Paul and the girls stayed with Skip/Karleen. For some reason, the girls weren't scared of their dog, and enjoyed watching Skip give her a bath.
On Thursday, Skip came to check on Charlie. He hadn't made enough progress to be released, and would stay another day and night.
Paul played with the girls in the snow, then switched with me. By now, I was getting really sick with a cold and cough, so I watched Brave with the girls, bathed them, and I went to bed at 9.
Paul stayed overnight with our sweet boy, who was starting to make progress. He was off the IV, and later off oxygen.
On Friday, Charlie got released from the hospital! All we needed was a portable suction machine, which took all morning to arrive, but we finally got to get out of there.
We dressed him in his new penguin outfit from Grandma Flake, and drove to Horseshoe Bend. We had a delicious stew dinner, opened a few gifts, and played games.
On Saturday, Charlie got acquainted with Aunt Cassidy.
For those who haven't seen Mom/Dad's new house, here's the view of the living room from upstairs.
Kitchen/dining room.
Paul and I went on a date to Wal-Mart. The after Christmas sale was...interesting.
Then we found a delicious Indian restaurant for lunch.
It was really good!
Mom/Dad's house.
I was super sick with my cough and cold, so I'd only gotten 3 hours of sleep the night before. I took a nap with Charlie. That evening, we went to Joel's for brisket and visiting.
Charlie spent quality time with Grandma Flake.
She made him smile!
Adoring fans. We watched a few episodes of Undercover Boss, then went to bed sick.
Today, the girls wore their new outfits from Grandma Flake.
Aren't they pretty?
All dolled up for Charlie baby blessing. I wouldn't have gone to church at all because I was so sick, but we decided to stay until after the sacrament.
Paul gave him a really nice blessing.
We may have forgotten to bring white socks for him.
Dapper young man.
And then Alice got lip gloss everywhere. And life goes back to normal.
